A Village Surrounded by Acreages
Spray Foam Insulation in Malcolm mostly means acreage homes, outbuildings and a few streets of older village houses. Malcolm sits about 3.5 miles south of Branched Oak State Recreation Area and 5 miles north of Pawnee Lake State Recreation Area. The village had 164 housing units in 2010, and its population went from 382 in 2010 to 457 in 2020.
A village from 1877
Malcolm was platted in 1877 and named for Malcolm Showers, who owned the original town site and built the first church in 1885. The village's early years included a prairie fire in 1880 that burned from Middle Creek to Elk Creek. Older houses in the village core date from those early decades and the years after, and usually have the classic older-home problems: hollow walls, little in the attic and drafty foundations.
Acreage homes
Most homes around Malcolm are on acreages, and many have walkout basements, large attached garages or bonus rooms. Exposure is the issue: a house on open ground takes wind from every direction, and that wind finds every gap. Air sealing the attic, foaming the rim joist and insulating any room over the garage make a big difference in how the house holds heat.
Outbuildings
Acreage shops, horse barns and equipment sheds around Malcolm are a large share of our work. For steel buildings, closed-cell foam stops condensation. For a heated shop, we quote a thicker layer and pay attention to the overhead door and slab edge.
Financing
The state's Dollar and Energy Saving Loans program covers insulation and air sealing through participating Nebraska lenders. Approval has to come before work starts.

Malcolm Questions
Why is my acreage home so drafty on windy days?
Open ground means wind presses on the house from every side, pushing air through gaps at the rim joist, attic and around windows. Sealing those leaks matters more than adding insulation alone.
Can you insulate a horse barn or equipment shed?
Yes. We talk about how the building is used, then quote closed-cell foam to control condensation or a thicker layer if the building will be heated.
Do you come out to Malcolm for small jobs?
Yes, though spray foam jobs have a minimum. Pairing a rim joist or shop job with other work can make the trip more cost-effective.
